Building, Permitting, and Code Enforcement

Building in Ohio Township is regulated by the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and Ohio Township Zoning Ordinance #305 (and subsequent amendments). 

Code Enforcement and Property Maintenance is regulated by the International Property Maintenance Code and other applicable ordinances within the Township's Code of Ordinances.

BUILDING PERMITS

A Building Permit is required for residential and commercial construction including, but not limited to, the following projects:

  • New and Existing Construction - Dwellings, Additions, Structural Alterations (i.e. load-bearing walls),
  • Decks and/or attached Roofs
  • Swimming Pools - Inground and Above-ground
  • Solar Panels
  • Demolition
  • Signs
 
SUBMITTAL INSTRUCTIONS: Submit all applicable items listed on the first page of the Application Package to the Ohio Township municipal building. Review time typically takes 10-15 business days. Building Permit Application can be found under "Forms and Permit Applications."
 

ZONING PERMITS

A Zoning Permit is required for any construction or use not regulated by a Building Permit, including: 

  • Detached structures under 1,000 sq. ft.
    • Sheds
    • Detached garages
    • Carports
  • Chickens, Bees, and/or Sheep (Ordinance 342)

SUBMITTAL INSTRUCTIONS: Submit the following to the Ohio Township municipal building for review: (1) Zoning Permit Application, (2) permit fee, and (3) a property survey showing the location of the proposed structure. Review time typically takes 1-5 business days.
